You must either design an small PCB to connect the SOP package IC and pins to take out the connecting wires which wont work in the case if your IC is already soldered and then the debugging becomes almost impossible. To save this trouble this Programmer Testing Clip which connects SOP16 pin package to DIP8 package which you can easily use with soldered IC on the board as it has a clip to connect and hold on to the SOP package IC while you can connect Dual Inline Package (DIP) pins on your programmer board DIP Holder. This will make your programming and debugging work very easy to execute without need to desolder and solder the SOP package IC on the PCB.
